The demand for affordable prostheses is now taking on large proportions, especially in poorer countries. Generally, wood prostheses are improvised, putting the user's own health at risk. Sometimes making the patient's picture even worse. In Brazil, according to the Ministry of Health, about one million people with disabilities are waiting for prosthetics.
The invention describes a process for manufacturing a transtibial prosthesis using a bamboo-based polymeric composite. Protebam is highly sustainable: it is made from materials from renewable sources, has a low manufacturing cost and there is less emission of toxic waste during its manufacture.
The bamboo prosthesis was made from a composite of bamboo and castor resin. These materials come from renewable sources that give the device more resistance, lightness and very affordable price.
