Infection of aquatic organisms by pathogenic bacteria generates significant economic impacts on fish farming around the world. The accurate diagnosis of these diseases based on the identification of the etiological agent is essential in the choice and efficacy of clinical treatments, avoiding the use of non-functional antibiotics and the generation of microbial resistance. Currently available tests not only require the use of specialized equipment, structure and training but also involve expensive and time- consuming sample processing. This novel technology consists of an immunodiagnostic kit for the multiple and simultaneous detection of bacterial contamination of farmed fish.
This technology comprises an immunodiagnostic kit that allows for simultaneous and multiple detection, using only one sampling of biological and non-biological molecules of the following bacterial agents: Streptococcus agalactiae; Lactococcus garvieae; Aeromonas hydrophila and Flavobacterium columnare and their respective exotoxins. Detection is achieved through the use of IgY class monospecific antibodies applied in an immunochromatographic assay.
