Thanks to the promising effects reported, the action of flavonoids in memory has been increasingly studied. The main reports are linked to the effects of consuming dietary supplements, plants or extracts rich in flavonoids on cognition. One of the causes of the beneficial effects of flavonoids is related to the fact that they participate in cell differentiation and cellular mechanisms involved in memory formation, such as long-term potentiation (LTP). Benefits brought by various plant extracts are already known, however, no studies report benefits from the Erythrina falcata plant extract, also known as corticeira da serra. This new technology presents a flavonoid composition of this plant and its beneficial effects on memory.
The administration of the composition in young and healthy rats brought improvements in the acquisition and retention of memory for up to 72 hours, indicating a great therapeutic potential in the treatment of cognitive deficits in the early stages of dementias.
