According to the world health organization, snake poisoning has been classified as a neglected tropical disease, especially in developing countries where access to snake venom antiserum is precarious or even non-existent. among other symptoms, rattlesnake bites cause acute renal failure, which is the main complication and cause of death. moreover, specific characteristics of rattlesnake venom make serum production expensive, and there have been reports of adverse reactions and ineffective neutralization of local tissue damage.
The technology involves the use of extracts from rhizophora roots, stems, bark and leaves for the preparation of medicinal products for snake bite antivenom treatment, more specifically rattlesnake bites. rhizophora extracts were tested and proved to be a good complementary alternative for snakebite treatment, with a faster, cheaper and more affordable production process.
