The seasonality of the crops used for the feeding of herds can make it difficult to manage them. Pastures suffer direct influences from climatic relationships causing nutritional losses to the herd and economic to the producer. The use of animal feed during periods of natural pasture deficiency adds high costs, especially to the smallholder. Food management can represent 65 to 80% of the cost of the liter of milk.
The mechanical processing of fodder plants causes greater availability of nutrients for the silage process, providing an increase in the nutritional value of the final product that will be used for animal feed.
