Immobilized enzymes are poorly used due to problems such as the percentage of enzyme that remains active after the immobilization process, its operational half life and its high cost of obtaining and applying. The search for efficient and low cost support materials is an important point to enable the industrial application of immobilized enzymes. Thus, this new technology associates green coconut fiber, a pollutant potential and low value added, for the production of an efficient solid support with high added value.
The enzymes immobilized in green coconut fiber present an increase in their thermal stability, making it difficult to change their structure and favoring their use as a biocatalyst in certain industrial processes. They are also presented with an excellent reuse factor and high mechanical resistance, thus resulting in a significant savings in the overall cost of the process.
